League Business:
- A
meeting agenda, SMSL minutes from the May meeting, SMSL Meet/stoke and
turn clinic calendar were distributed to everyone. The only change on the calendar was no
timing clinic on June 13th at Breton Bay.
- Timing Systems: Many teams have
new software. Contact Dave Gilman
(SMSL president) if you need assistance with any part of the software.
- Stroke and Turn Clinics: We are stressing consistent judging
throughout the league. Please
encourage as many parents as possible to attend any of the stroke and turn
clinics to be judges for this summer.
Also stress that this is a position that needs to be taken
seriously.
- Pool Closings due to weather: Teams need to contact the COACH from the
host team. The starter for the meet
will make the decision regarding a cancellation or delay in the start of
the meet. This info will be given
to the coach.
- Treasurer’s Report: We have $125.40 in our bank
account. We do not have enough
money for special ribbons for the Coaches Age Group Meet. The swimmer fee was raised to
$5.00. Please mail your roster and
money to the league Treasurer, Rebecca
Maddox. Her address is: 14585
Honeysuckle Way,
Swan Point, MD 20745.
- Please
let Swan Point know approximately how many swimmers you expect from your
team for the relay carnival on Saturday, June 21st. They are gathering some great
prizes. Concessions will be sold at
the meet.
- Cove Point has chosen the
crocodile as their mascot. Welcome
Cove Point Crocs!
- Invitational T-Shirt design: Each team will submit one design for the
Invitational T-Shirt. Please bring
your design to the Coaches Age Group meet on JULY 12th.
Coaches’ Age Group
Meet (CAG):
- Penny
Branaman will do the computer work for the CAG meet. She will send out the events to
everyone.
- The
Board members votes in favor of changing the meet to an Odd Age Group meet format. There will be no time standards;
however, there are “place standards” instead. Swimmers who place 1st or 2nd
in an event may not swim that particular event in the CAG. If that event hasn’t been swum (i.e. the
25 yd free for 11 year old
(would normally swim the 50
free in a regular meet), then the swimmer can’t swim the stroke in which
he/she placed 1st or 2nd.
Invitational Meet:
- Please
let families know that professional
photographer, Bill Wood, will be taking pictures of swimmers at the
Invitational Meet. You can request
action shot pictures be taken of your child. Photos can be purchased from Bill’s
website. This will be published in
the meet program.
- T-shirts were discussed. Some ideas included:
Ø Making
no changes- 1st & 2nd place finishers receive free
t-shirt.
Ø Choose
2 designs from team submissions. One
design would be for 1st & 2nd place finishers for
free. The other design would be sold as
preorders for other participants in the meet who don’t get a 1st or
2nd place finish.
Ø The
money from the sold t-shirts would serve as a fund raiser for the league.
Ø Both
shirts would have all the meet participants printed on the back.
Ø Preordered
shirts could be a different color from the 1st/2nd place
finisher shirts.
Ø How
much time is needed to get the names printed on the shirts?
