2011 Parent Letter for Breton Bay Lesson & Swim Team Program

BRETON BAY SWIM TEAM 2011
WELCOME!
Welcome to the Breton Bay Sea Devils swim team. My name is Tom Zelenak. I will be the head coach, along with Hanna Lloyd and Brian Lackey. We are very excited for the start of the season and look forward to working with everyone.
Practice:
Swim Team practice starts Monday, June 20th and ends Friday, July 29th.  Separate stroke and turn work will be conducted on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Please see attached schedule for times. We encourage participation in all practices as the practices will build as the season progresses. Please be on time.  We will be stretching before each practice and need to ensure that we have adequate time in the water.
Meets:
The league offers home and away meets on Tuesday and Thursday evenings plus 3 League meets: the Coaches’ Age Group (designed for beginning to moderate level swimmers), the Relay Carnival (a small meet for approximately 50 swimmers from our team), and the end-of-season Invitational at St. Mary’s College (for swimmers who have competed twice during the regular season in specific strokes without being DQ’d).
Volunteers:
It takes about 50 volunteers to run a home meet and we must  provide 32 volunteers for all away meets. Breton Bay therefore requires that each family with a child swimming in a meet have someone designated to work half of the meet. This is the only fair way to ensure that we have enough staffing for each meet. Parents must sign the meet book to register swimmers to participate in a meet. Swimmers will only be entered if a parent or designated volunteer has signed up for a volunteer slot to work half of the meet. This applies to both home and away meets.
Stoke and Turn Judge Training:

Each team must provide 2 Stroke and Turn judges on duty for each meet. You do not need to be a stoke expert to perform this duty, however you do need to be certified annually.  Clinics will be held several times in June to train volunteers to be Stroke and Turn judges for the summer swim team season.  All times are on the schedule are tentative; we will let you know if there are any changes!  Please consider volunteering to learn the necessary skills to perform this important role.
Suits:

Suits are available from Metro Swim Shop. You do not have to wear your team suit at league meets, but you cannot wear suits from other organizations (such as CBAC, GMAC or LHS). We encourage all team members to wear the team suit to all swim meets. We are one team and want to show the other teams that we are! Metro Swim will return on June 20th, the first day of practice, from 8am to noon, to deliver suits ordered on May 14th. They will have other equipment, such as caps and goggles, and extra suits for those who did not order on May 14th. Metro can be reached at 443-891-0800 to place an order and have it shipped to your home.
Cost:

The cost for the swim team for the 2011 season will be $55 per child and $45 for additional children from the same family.  There will be no family $20 fee this year.
