 Volunteer Position Descriptions:

Timer:

Two timers are needed for each of the 6 lanes.  Ideally there would be 1 timer from each team per lane.  Timing requires standing at the finish end of the pool and depressing a push button when the swimmers has touched the wall (Proper touch is determined by the official, timer just records the time of touch).  One of the timers will also need to operate a standard stop watch and record that time on paper.  Timers also verify that the swimmer who is about to / or who has just completed the race is the person listed on the program.

*Officials (Training required):

        Follows USA Swim rules

Stroke and Turn:  The stroke and turn judge typically stands at one end of the pool judging half the pool and 3 lanes using US Swim rules.

Starter:  Typically previous stroke and turn judge for several years.  This position requires additional training.  The starter tells the swimmers to take their mark and depresses the start signal.

Referee:  Typically previous stroke and turn judge and starter for several years and require additional training.  The meet referee is the final authority on Disqualifications, calls the swimmers to clear the pool, lets the starter know that the pool is clear and swimmers are ready to to start the next race.

Concessions:

Several people are need to set up, distribute food, handle money, and tear down the concessions and work the grill.

Clerk of Course:

One person assists the coaches in lining up the children for each event and heat.  Directing them to chairs and keeping the flow moving.

Ribbon Table:

One person from each team is required to retrieve stickers from the computer table, apply them to the appropriate ribbons, and put them in a bag for the proper team.

Heat Ribbon Rep:

One person is required to watch each heat and give a heat ribbon to the heat winner.

*Computer table (Training required):

The meet is run using HYTEK Meet Manager software.  The coaches will have the meet set up with the swimmers before the meet.  Each heat is monitored for proper timing, times are verified, event placing is printed and posted, and ribbon stickers are printed and given to the ribbon table.
